Our work includes strategic planning, research, policy analysis, training, and program evaluation for Federal, State, and local governments, including the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), the Transportation Research Board (TRB), State transportation and environmental agencies, and metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs).

This is a full-time, 10-week internship that begins in early June 2024. Work will be hybrid from either ICF’s White Plains, NY, Melville, NY or Midtown, New York office – please note your location preference in the cover letter or resume heading. At this time, we are unable to provide relocation nor housing assistance for this internship.

Job Description

Our line of business is growing, and our client base is expanding quickly. We are seeking a 2024 Summer Intern, Sustainable Mobility with the skills and interest to learn and assist with targeted employer and community engagement on various projects. You will mostly support projects for New York State but may have opportunities to support projects in other states or at the Federal level. You should have a background or interest in sustainable transportation and air quality. You should be interested in encouraging people to change their travel behavior through emerging technologies and innovations. You must be comfortable speaking one-on-one with people via phone and video calls, at community engagement events and presenting to large groups either in person or virtually. ICF encourages independent thinkers and workers, and we are looking for individuals who bring new points of view to every project.

Your most important responsibilities will be to assist with fostering relationships with individuals at various employers or organizations and to attend meetings and public events to help promote programs and strategies focusing on the use of emerging sustainable transportation modes. Topic areas may include ridesharing, mobility on demand, microtransit, shared mobility, electric vehicles, etc. Your engagement may include a combination of sales calls, emails, digital and in-person events and you may leverage a variety of platforms and techniques to engage with potential partners regarding the implementation of sustainable transportation services. The public events are typically public community events attended by local residents of all ages and backgrounds. At these events, you may engage in conversation with the attendees and promote the program and strategies. You will be accountable for achieving internship goals that will be established during your first week.

You may need to travel within the region for meetings and events. Events may happen during the daytime or occasional evening and/or weekend hours.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Work with a team to support client initiatives and promote sustainable mobility options. Identify and meet the needs of clients within established guidelines.
• Prospect potential promotional opportunities and build relationships with new stakeholders.
• Meet key deliverables through engagement to stakeholders, including employers, universities, colleges, municipalities, healthcare providers, and community-based organizations using a variety of contemporary and traditional tools.
• Help facilitate virtual and on-site meetings and engagement events with stakeholders. Travel to stakeholder worksites within the region (Hudson Valley, Long Island, New York City, Etc.) to support client initiatives (maybe 1-3 days per week).
• Prepare correct and on-time activity reports on a weekly and monthly basis.
• Provide commuters technical assistance to solve commuting challenges. Assist commuters in registering for transportation programs.
• Assist with EVSE management.

The intern should have interest in one or more of the following areas:
• Engagement or sales experience working with stakeholders and community-based organizations.
• Transportation programs relating to carpooling, vanpooling, bicycling, micromobility, microtransit, transportation electrification, clean transportation technologies, and autonomous vehicles.
• Public relations or promotion of a product, organization, or service.
• Hosting or supporting presentations, events, and meetings with clients or stakeholders.
• Utilizing data, technological tools, training workshops, and innovative techniques to promote participation in programs.
• Collaborate with a project team and client to achieve established goals.

Basic Qualifications:
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Sustainability, Environmental Science, or related subjects.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
• Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable using digital technology and possess a willingness to learn how to use new software and digital applications.
• Excellent oral and written communications skills; outgoing and personable, comfortable speaking in groups or one-on-one settings.
• Experience conducting independent research and producing high quality documents.
• Ability to work on multiple projects under strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Community engagement or sales experience.
• Demonstrated interest or background in transportation and environmental issues.
• General understanding of public transportation systems.
• Working with the business community, municipal officials, local / regional organizations, transportation information programs, transit providers, and other transportation demand management service providers.
• Capable of organizing own schedule to balance time needed for prospecting, relationship-building, meetings, and events to achieve target goals.
• Punctual to meetings and events.

Pay Range – There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position. The pay range for this position is:
$43,827.00 – $74,505.00
