This role sits within the Retirement and Income Solutions business (RIS). A part of MetLife’s U.S. Business, RIS is a leading provider of stable value products, structured settlements, annuities for employer sponsored plans and life insurance funding products. As part of the RIS Contracts leadership team, the successful candidate will oversee the Annuities Contracts team and partner closely with the product, sales, pricing, operations, and legal teams to deliver impact.

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and set the strategic direction of a newly consolidated Annuities Contracts team (6 direct reports), which is responsible for ensuring Annuities contracts accurately capture MetLife’s promises to its customers, reflect business and operational capabilities and intentions, and comply with relevant regulatory requirements, enabling MetLife’s purpose, “Always With You, Building a More Confident Future”.
• Oversee the drafting, negotiating, obtaining regulatory approval for and issuance of contracts for the Pensions, Institutional Income Annuities and Structured Settlements businesses (including complex proposals, commitment agreements, contracts, amendments, certs and separate account documentation) in fast paced, deadline driven environment.
• Provide (and oversee provision of) technical expertise and advice to the Annuities business on research and queries related to enforce contracts and related filings.
• Champion a continuous improvement culture through identification and execution of process enhancements to drive efficiency, including the adoption and utilization of Icertis as RIS’ contracts lifecycle management platform.
• Provide technical guidance and analysis of critical new product ventures and due diligence, communicating implications to stakeholders.
• Maintain strong relationships with Annuities business leadership and key stakeholders such as the sales, product, legal, pricing and implementation teams.
• Maintain strong relationship with state insurance regulator personnel to secure timely approvals, address product and compliance needs.

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required
• Motivational leadership, ability to unite a team under common objectives and execute with sense of urgency.
• Strong strategic and critical thinking, ability to foresee micro and macro impacts of both an issue and potential solutions, weigh risks and benefits and act decisively.
• Strong written communication and presentation skills; ability to communicate complex concepts with brevity and poise / aplomb.
• Ability to organize and delegate work across the team based on skills, capability and capacity and drive / oversee execution. Prioritize tasks and resources as required.
• Demonstrated history of exercising sound judgement.
• Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in the pension risk transfer market and familiarity with these contracts and other annuities products.
• 10+ years of Legal, contracts or financial services experience
• Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, and Word proficient.

Preferred
• Bachelor’s degree. MBA Preferred.

The wage range for applicants for this position is $121,400 to $161,800. This role is also eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation. MetLife offers a comprehensive benefits program, including healthcare benefits, life insurance, retirement benefits, parental leave, legal plan services and paid time off.
