Description:
Educator – Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI)
The Educator will work with program leadership to plan, develop, and implement clinical documentation education programs for CDI specialists and providers. Educate members of the CDI team on the review functions within the CDI program in order to meet and maintain enterprise goals and objectives, regulatory compliance, policies and procedures and personnel management. Essential Job Duties Works with department leadership to plan, develop, and implement clinical documentation integrity education and assessment programs for CDIS specialists and documenting clinical providers. Implements and continuously improves onboarding materials and mentors new CDIS staff. Provides readiness assessments of new CDI staff. Performs chart audits of CDI reviews for ICD-10-CM, CPT, and PCS and MSDRG/APR assignment to confirm staff demonstrate appropriate review practice. Identify corresponding query opportunities to confirm all appropriate queries are being submitted. Identifies trends and patterns in coding and documenta tion variances, monitors CDI review and query quality and provides direct one-to-one feedback, and group education on key identified topics to ensure compliance with applicable policies and CDI work procedures. Facilitates, assigns and monitors ongoing CDIS education participation for all CDIS staff. Monitors CDIs participation and completion of assigned training including coding, CDI, chart review, reimbursement and regulatory changes. Provides feedback to CDI leadership regarding staff performance and new opportunities for documentation improvement focus. Collaborates with CDI MD Advisors and CDI MD Champions to develop clinical specialty focused CDI presentation materials.
This is a full time position at NewYork-Presbyterian / Weill Cornell Medical Center.
Required Criteria
• Master degree or equivalent experience
• 2 years acute care with advanced clinical expertise and extensive knowledge of complex disease processes with a broad clinical experience in an inpatient setting
• At least 5 years of experience working with a Clinical Documentation Improvement Program
• Excellent communication skills and professional demeanor
Preferred Criteria
• Master’s Degree in Nursing or Nursing Education
• CDI Certification
• Certified Coding Specialist
• Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) or Certified AHIMA Clinical Documentation Integrity Professional (CDIP)
• Demonstrated competency in teaching/learning process, organizational skills and computer literacy
