Our Restoration & Renewal practice has a historic preservation group that investigates existing buildings’ envelope problems and provides evidence-based solutions. We provide the DOB FISP (Façade Inspection and Safety Program) services, including exterior wall examination from the boom lift, suspended scaffold, and rope access. We prepare drawings and specifications for the required roof and façade repairs and provide technical support during the bid and construction phase, with frequent site visits to review the quality of work and conformance with contract documents, as well as special inspections. We assist property managers, building owners, and design professionals with a wide range of engineering and architectural issues. The majority of our projects involve historic buildings and structures, but we also assist with contemporary buildings. The Role Thornton Tomasetti has an exciting opportunity in the New York Office for a motivated and talented Historic Preservation/Building Envelope Associate, Architect, or Engineer with an interest in historic preservation specializing in exterior restoration, preservation design, and forensics. Projects range from cultural institutions to vintage high-rises to historic bridges to adaptive reuse of industrial buildings. Project typologies range from early masonry construction to mid-century modern curtain walls. Responsibilities Tasks include condition assessments, developing material testing programs, report writing, developing repair design strategies, preparing CD’s, and construction phase services. Team coordination would include working with design architects, structural engineers, conservators, testing labs, owners, owner representatives, and contractors. Additional in-house coordination would include TT’s diverse disciplines, including protective design, façade engineering, structural design, and sustainability, as well as other TT offices around the US and Canada. Requirements: Bachelor of Architecture (5-year program), Master of Architecture or BS in Civil Engineering. MS in Historic Preservation preferred. Experience with façade assessments, CD’s, and construction phase services in the field and office. Knowledge of conservation or preservation techniques is preferred. Travel to job sites around the NYC metro area and the greater Northeast. Advanced in AutoCAD. Compensation The rate for this position generally is $110,000 – $140,000 annually. This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the New York Pay Transparency Law. It is based on what a successful New York applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in New York or perform the position from New York. Similar positions located outside of New York will not necessarily receive the same compensation. Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted by New York Equal Pay Transparency Law. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employee already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law. A potential new employee’s pay history will not be used in compensation decisions.
