OVERVIEW

The function of the Packaging Team Manager is to provide necessary technical support and leadership, to direct, facilitate, and coordinate the performance, development, and improvement of the day-to-day management of packaging. This position has the responsibility of establishing/maintaining a capable, continuously improving, high-quality work force with a focus on improving plant equipment reliability, quality, process, and efficiency at the lowest sustainable cost.

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Directs the Maintenance and Production supervisors to meet and exceed all safety, health, quality, and environmental regulations and requirements.
• Partners with support functions (i.e. Supply Chain, Procurement, Sales, etc.) to meet production demands
• Develop or revise standard operational and working practices
• Drives Continuous Improvement initiatives within the Packaging department
• Review daily packaging operations with respect to overall efficiency, product requirement, and current established production schedule.
• Direct the daily activities of the Packaging Maintenance and Production Supervisors to ensure coordination of proper priorities.
• Review the previous day’s operation with the Packaging Department Manager, and inform the Department Manager of current actual problems, and expected problem areas, which could affect customer delivery, product quality, or production line capability.
• Review the shutdown maintenance and cleaning schedules to ensure that maintenance and cleanings are done effectively, with no adverse effect on the production rate.
• Develop and implement plans to improve substandard performance.
• Determine the long-range needs of the packaging maintenance department and develop plans that implement solutions.
• Develop and maintain an effective organization and good working climate by organizing the staff into a working team of motivated employees. Conducts performance evaluations on a timely basis and establishes performance goals.
• Develop and lead the packaging supervisor team in the transition to a culture of accountability through the development and implementation
• Achieve results through subordinates in a unionized environment.
• Maintain standard production rates while maintaining compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality standards.
• Coordinates production set-up, start-up, running, shutdown, CIP, and product changeover in a 24/7 operation
• Resolves production-reporting discrepancies with Accounting, Quality, and Materials departments as required.
• Assists with the creation and revisions to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Work Instructions (WI), Work Aids (WA), etc.
• Collects, reviews, resolves discrepancies, and publishes production data for earnings, labor efficiency, scrap, and material usage for the Packaging Department.
• Ensure all Safety policies and requirements are followed at all times.

WORK EXPERIENCES
• Experience in a technical role required (maintenance, engineering, and/or operations), preferably in a federally regulated manufacturing environment
• Minimum of 3-5 years of related management experience, including overseeing supervisors and managing a multi-departmental manufacturing/ production operation.
• Food or beverage production experience is strongly preferred.
• Experience designing and driving process improvement in a food (or similar) manufacturing environment

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) from a 4-year college or university in Engineering, or a similar field required OR equivalent experience in a Packaging department.
• Continuous Improvement or quality certification(s) is strongly preferred.
