Key Responsibilities
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Product Development Lead will work with the Private Brand group to create new products and enhance current designs. You will expand the product offering in in a wide variety of industrial, furniture, and electrical categories to support the growth and profitability of the overall company. You will handle all aspects of projects from concept to production to delivery and launch. Key responsibilities consist of understanding different product materials, manufacturing processes, pricing estimates, and negotiating with vendors. Activities include collaborating with multiple departments and domestic/international suppliers across times zones and cultures.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Research and develop new projects from concept through production in categories such as Material Handling, Storage & Shelving, Safety, Janitorial & Sanitation, Furniture and Plumbing.
• Manage all details of a project (branding/packaging/quality/regulatory) and ensure completion within the given timeframe from start to finish.
• Create product specifications, standards, test reports, safety warnings, assembly instructions and product manuals.
• Establish and maintain relationships with external vendors and factories to expedite and improve manufacturing processes.
• Able to negotiate RFQ bids per the right specification and analyze pricing for various products/raw materials.
• Ensure web presentation for Private Brand products have accurate information that clearly communicate the key features and attributes to the customer.
• Handle daily communication with staff worldwide and work with multiple departments on different initiatives and goals.
Competencies and skills
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Engineering or Industrial Design. Or strong skills/experience in Project Management or Product Sourcing.
• 3-5 years of designing experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Motivated individual with strong organizational skills.
• Able to multitask in a fast pace environment and work well with other team members.
• Resourceful, eager to learn, keen attention to details and deadlines.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes:
Metals- stamping, welding, wire forming, extrusions, roll forming and foundry,
o Plastics; injection molding, roto molding, thermoforming.
• Familiarity with offshore sourcing and factory liaison is a plus.
• Willingness and ability for domestic and International travel required.
• Knowledge of OSHA Rules, National Electric Code, NEMA, NSF, UL, California Standards.
