Job Description

Jack Morton Worldwide, a multi-faceted experiential agency, is seeking freelance Project Managers to work with the New York office’s Broadcast and Environmental Design Group with set design, environmental design, and experiential event realizations. Our Emmy Award-winning team has designed for every major network and helped create iconic television environments, such as ESPN SportsCenter, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Daily Show with John Stewart and with Trevor Noah, NBC’s The Today Show, and many more.

The Project Manager pairs with a Principal Designer per project to execute a design from start to finish. Responsibilities include: scheduling and management of creative resources; project schedule and budget management; coordination with partners and vendors, especially scene shops, print production, and AV suppliers; site surveys and onsite installation supervision; client interface; and general research and art direction under the design vision. Ideal candidate is familiar with industry standards in scenery and production, is detail oriented, great problem solver, comfortable working with tight deadlines, flexible with fast-paced changes, and has a positive and collaborative attitude. Experience managing broadcast scenery, theatre, events, museums, environments, or architecture is desired. Experience with CAD drafting, especially Vectorworks, is a plus. Preferred BA/BFA in theatrical design/tech, architecture, interior design, graphic design, communications, or similar.

The Broadcast & Environmental Design team is seeking freelance Senior and Associate Project Managers. Senior PMs and Associate PMs both work with our Designers on all tasks for the duration of an environmental design project. Our Project Management team is tasked with ensuring the design vision is executed to success and that our team’s workflow is organized, efficient, and effective.

Accountabilities

External Management
• All tasks working with the Principal Designer on a project:
• Participate in the preparation and presentation of designs to clients and production partners
• Preparation, distribution, and communication with clients and vendors regarding project scopes, deliverables, timelines, budgets, and impacts and adjustments along the way
• Develop and manage project budgets including costs from various parties
• Develop and manage project calendars
• Coordinate and provide direction to production partners for proper execution of design elements
• Facilitate communication between production partners and with clients, including establishing needs for meetings, e-mail threads, documentation, task management/action items, etc.
• Ensure clear communication while representing our team and guide communication of all parties with a role in the project’s production
• Seek and provide creative and logistical solutions for project tasks to improve quality and efficiency
• Act as a “catch-all” for incoming requests and questions, redirecting as need be and assigning responses to applicable parties

Internal Management
• All tasks working with the Principal Designer on a project:
• Develop internal design budget, relating to tasks of team members and time
• Organize step-by-step workflow and schedule/book external resources such as drafting, illustration, graphics, etc. as needed
• Ensure regular team meetings and manage communications between team members, ensuring all deadlines are met
• Consult during internal tasks (drafting, illustration, graphics, etc.) as an active role with other team members to provide appropriate direction on execution of said tasks and on all individual job details
• Manage file storage and distribution on project servers
• Manage and present progress reports

Qualifications
• College Degree or equivalent experience in field of production management – preferably in scenery, stages, environments, interiors, architecture, installations, events, or similar
• Demonstrable examples of major management role played on 2 or more successful projects
• Demonstrable knowledge of environmental production elements
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Demonstrated production competencies: client focus, accountability for results, team effectiveness, developing others, attention to detail, flexibility, and professional confidence
• Experience in drafting a plus
