The impact you will make:

Agios Pharmaceuticals is searching for a dynamic Regional Business Director, West Region to join our US Sales and Marketing team. We want someone who cares about this important work, and who’s driven to connect to our mission of helping these patient communities. The Regional Business Director will report to the VP of US Sales and Marketing and be a key member of the US Sales and Marketing Leadership team. They will be responsible for attracting, developing, inspiring, and retaining a high performing team focused on accelerating the launch of PYRUKYND for Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency (PKD). The Regional Business Director will work closely with commercial leadership, marketing, marketing analytics, market access, patient advocacy, patient support services, and medical affairs to ensure alignment and to meet corporate objectives.

We are seeking an individual with a demonstrated track record of fostering a motivating work environment and leading high performing rare disease sales teams to exceed ambitious objectives. The Regional Business Director should possess a scrappy “start-up” mentality and values consistent with the patient and science focused Agios culture. They will be motivated by the opportunity to accelerate the performance of PYRUKYND and advance commercial capabilities to support Agios’ pipeline of transformative rare genetic disease treatments.

What you will do:
• Effectively integrate into existing team by expertly learning disease state, clinical data, and market dynamics – listening and connecting to engage team, pull through best practices, and provide strategic/tactical direction to reinforce current momentum and strong team culture
• Create regional sales strategy and routinely work with sales specialists to oversee the execution of territory business plans. This should lead to the achievement or exceeding of sales forecasts
• Provide prompt and objective feedback, coaching, and counseling to celebrate, enhance or improve performance; Set clear expectations and hold individuals accountable for performance and behaviors
• Develop relationships with key regional customers, KOLs, and continue to build knowledge of the hemolytic anemia marketplace
• Develop strong internal and external relationships to enable appropriate, compliant business partnerships; collaborate with Field Marketing, Regional Medical Affairs and Market Access colleagues to ensure seamless field coordination and customer/patient support
• Provide input on requirements for sales force systems, data, training programs, performance metrics, and selling resource decisions
• Active engagement by bringing unique insights to the Sales & Marketing Leadership Team always with an eye towards compliant collaboration
• Represent Agios positively and professionally at company meetings and conferences, ensuring the region’s activities are compliant with laws, regulations, policies, and guidelines
• Manage the regional sales expense budget and allocate according to best ROI principles
• Lead ad-hoc initiatives to support the business as requested

What you bring:
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree
• Proven success in Rare Disease sales; at least 5 years of rare disease/oncology/hematology sales
• Ability to lead and offer subject matter expertise within team and greater organization
• Demonstrated understanding of the payer and clinical landscape, especially in specialty & rare diseases
• Demonstrated business and scientific acumen
• Experience leading projects or cross-functional project teams
• Results-oriented and able to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
• Ability to deal with ambiguity and drive results
• Strong, resourceful self- starter who is innovative and able to develop new business solutions
• Extraordinary commitment to customer experience and standards of excellence
• Willingness to travel extensively to lead team and business across large geographies
• At least 2 years managing or mentoring a high-performing field-based team
• Advanced degree (MBA) preferred
• Minimum of 5+ years commercial leadership experience in biotech/pharmaceuticals or equivalent experience preferred
• Rare genetic disease experience preferred

Travel Requirements
• Field based remote role requiring routine overnight travel up to 60%; Occasional weekend work for congresses / key meetings
• Valid driver’s license
