Job Description
Mott MacDonald is looking to hire an experienced, motivated, independent, and organized team player for a senior project controls specialist position. This position will help support any of our many sectors throughout the Northeast. Our sectors include Aviation, Buildings, Energy, Highways, Bridges, Rail, Tunnels, Water, and Environment. This position could be in any office in the Northeast.
The project controls specialist may have some or all the following responsibilities:
• Provide professional guidance and support to project teams to help develop project WBS structures, budgets, resource forecasts, risk registers, progress reports and standardized reporting forms for various professional services contracts
• Provide specialized direction and recommendations to project teams and management teams for the resolution of diverse project controls issues
• Compile, monitor and report on project financial data, including but not limited to, planned spend, actual spend, estimate to complete, budget trends, project costs, profitability, etc.
• Attend and/or facilitate monthly project controls meetings with key project personnel
• Perform data validation and quality checks on project expenses and invoices
• Facilitate and support completion of internal quality and reporting requirements
• Provide bid stage fee proposal support, to include assisting in development of fee proposals and profitability analysis
• Manage contract amendment process, assist with preparing submittal documents, and collect and/or develop necessary inputs
• Support Project Managers in the contract auditing and negotiation processes
• Subconsultant Management
• Perform quality checks and facilitate processing of subconsultant invoices
• Track and monitor subconsultant progress against budgets
• Facilitate budget reallocations across multiple firms on major projects
• Initiate and manage purchase orders
• Change Management
• Create and manage change orders
• Facilitate development of scope and cost documents across internal and external (subconsultant) project teams
• Compile Mott MacDonald and client specific change management documentation
• Oversee change order submittal, negotiation, and approval processes
• Develop recovery and mitigation plans and manage the execution of the plans
• Perform commercial reviews of the financial impacts of project change orders
• Earned Value Management by working with the project manager to:
• Develop of the budget/planned value of work based on the scope of works
• Determine the actual value of work completed by the project team based on milestones and objectives
• Calculate the earned value of the physical work completed
• Perform variance analysis including schedule and cost variances using indices such as the schedule performance index (SPI) and cost performance index (CPI).
• Prepare ad-hoc reports for distribution
• Network with project managers, engineers, invoicers, and accounting teams to address project needs and resolve issues
• Communicate with project controls teammates and collaborate as needed
Candidate Specification
The ideal senior project controls specialist will have the following qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, business, construction management, or related field
• At least 10 years in the engineering/project controls/program management industry
• A Certified Cost Professional (CCP) with AACE International; or as a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) with PMI, or other equivalent certification relevant to the management is preferred
• Strong command of Excel
• Experience with ERP accounting systems and EVM
• Experience with engineering projects preferred
• Working knowledge of project design process and configuration management preferred
• Must be able to manage deadlines across multiple projects
• Must have exceptional organizational skills
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to read and understand project schedules preferred
• Experience with SharePoint preferred
Salary Range for NYC: $79,000 – $107,000
