Job Description
The urbanism + Planning group of AECOM is actively seeking a motivated, technical, and highly talented Urban Planner / Community Engagement to join our practice in New York and contribute to our community engagement and planning portfolio of work. As part of the project team, the planner will develop innovative and multi-faceted community engagement and outreach strategies, tools, and materials in support of high-profile design & construction projects throughout the New York City metro area.
AECOM’s Buildings + Places practice includes architecture, interiors, building engineering, workplace strategy, business transformation, asset advisory, economics and development planning, master planning, urban planning, and landscape architecture. With a range of expertise from strategy and design through project realization, we create better outcomes to grow economies, protect natural systems, conserve natural resources, make societies more equitable, and connect and engage people through innovative, sustainable design solutions. Our teams have worked on signature projects such as the London 2012 Olympic Park and Legacy Framework, to the new plan for the LA2028 Olympics, to industrial facilities for GE and Rolls-Royce, to headquarters and workplaces for NASA, Unilever, Sony Music, DirecTV, Box, Inc., and many Fortune 500 companies.
This position is expected to begin in September 2023.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
• Support the project team in development and execution of community planning and outreach strategies on multiple concurrent projects.
• Assist project manager and other team leads on all project tasks ensuring deadlines are met, including project research, GIS analysis, mapping, and coordination, policy and zoning analysis, interdisciplinary coordination, meeting coordination, scheduling, public outreach, noticing, and the detailed preparation of progress drafts, interim and final deliverables.
• Support community and stakeholder engagement activities, including strategic planning and event attendance.
• Create innovative and informative graphics for internal and public-facing presentations and workshops.
• Develop high-quality, user-friendly presentations, exhibition boards, reports, and other deliverables in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and InDesign.
• Prepare urban design existing conditions and concept studies.
• Identify community problems, issues, and opportunities in particular neighborhoods that could be mitigated through better community planning, design, and outreach.
• Communicate effectively with the project team and manager.
• Work efficiently on 2 to 5 projects at a time under the supervision of a project manager, and prioritize multiple tasks needed to meet deadlines.
• Compile data and conduct research in support of project delivery.
• Write and present formal and technical reports, working papers, and correspondence.
• Participate in on-site meetings and workshops in a support role.
• Support discrete project tasks as required.
• Assist with updates and maintenance of internal project SharePoint site and external project website.
• Conduct extensive research in specific or general project areas.
• Evaluate the adequacy of community facilities and agency assets in meeting current and projected needs.
• Provide additional support as needed to the larger planning, design, economics, and outreach team, to ensure the smooth execution of projects and the continuity of excellent client and community relationships.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
• BA/BS in Urban Planning or related degree or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
• Due to the nature of work, U.S. citizenship, green card holders, or permanent resident status is required
Preferred Qualifications:
• Participated in an Internship to gain professional exposure to the Urban Planning field.
• Exposure to commonly used software programs utilized in Urban Planning positions such as ArcGIS, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Non-Exempt Position The hourly range for this position is $29.40 – $40.42
