Position Summary:
The selected candidate will lead and manage all aspects of New York Life’s award-winning Supplier Diversity Program reporting to the Head of Supplier Diversity, Supplier ESG, Reporting and Contact Administration within Procurement. The position requires Supplier Diversity experience, an understanding of sourcing and procurement processes, strong leadership, ability to influence, project management expertise and excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
As manager of the program, the selected candidate will be responsible for the development of strategies that align with NYL’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives and leading key projects supporting those initiatives. The candidate will be expected to interact with internal stakeholders across the organization, as well as externally with national Supplier Diversity advocacy organizations, suppliers, and corporate peers. Attendance at New York area Supplier Diversity events is expected along with possible travel.
Essential Functions
Drive Strategy:
• Benchmark against industry best practices and standards to maintain best in class program
• Manage and grow NYL’s Tier 2 Program (including goal setting, tracking, and reporting)
• Develop and maintain internal and external outreach and partnerships (as further described below)
• Market all aspects of NYL’s Supplier Diversity Program
• Provide input to reporting and analytics function
External Outreach:
• Liaise and collaborate with Supplier Diversity certification and advocacy partner organizations and manage all aspects of corporate memberships and support of partner programs.
• Manage and administer corporate participation at national and local conferences and related travel activities, program/event sponsorship and hosting, and handling of advertisement and promotional materials.
• Identify and vet qualified diverse suppliers for introduction to internal stakeholders and for mentorship opportunities.
• Manage and oversee supplier development and advocacy initiatives
Internal Outreach and Consulting:
• Liaise and collaborate with internal partners and actively participate in the Supplier Diversity Advisory Council (SDAC).
• Make presentations at senior leadership meetings (provide program overview, spend updates and reporting).
• Develop materials for Board of Directors’ meetings.
• Support Procurement in identifying diverse vendors for inclusion in RFx opportunities; support sales teams in responding to potential client RFx opportunities.
• Prepare award applications and respond to corporate surveys (regulatory, supplier diversity, and corporate).
• Train internal stakeholders (including preparation of training materials).
Additional Operations/Administrative:
• Partner with stakeholders to manage and maintain supplier diversity databases, trackers, reports, scorecards and dashboards
• Evaluate and research supplier capabilities
• Develop and manage budget and invoice payments
• Maintain and update the supplier diversity website (internal and external)
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Minimum of 5+ years in supplier diversity
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Sourcing and Procurement experience
• Supplier Diversity certification a plus
• Must be self-driven, detail-oriented, resourceful, and able to work independently and with minimal supervision
• Experience in navigating highly complex organizations
Salary range: $115,000-$175,000
Overtime eligible: Exempt
